Every year, each Lions Club has the opportunity to nominate one or more members who have gone above and beyond in their service to the club and their community. These individuals demonstrate leadership, compassion, and a tireless commitment to the Lions’ mission of humanitarian service.

The recipients of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award receive:

Each Melvin Jones Fellowship nomination requires a $1,000 donation from the nominating club. These funds are used to support Lions International Programs, with the Downtown San Diego Lions Club traditionally designating their contributions to the SightFirst program. SightFirst works to combat blindness and provide vision care to individuals in need across the globe. By linking the Fellowship Award with this critical program, the Downtown San Diego Lions Club ensures that the recognition of exceptional members also makes a tangible difference in the fight against blindness.

As of March 2014, there were 361,160 Melvin Jones Fellows recognized in Lions Clubs around the world. These individuals represent the core values of Lions International: service, dedication, and community impact. The Downtown San Diego Lions Club is honored to have 27 Melvin Jones Fellows, who continue to inspire and lead by example within the organization and the broader community
