CANCELED – Speaker: Ernie Dronenburg, San Diego County Assessor, Recorder, and Clerk

Ernest J. Dronenburg, Jr. (Ernie) was elected Assessor, Recorder, and County Clerk (ARCC) in November 2010 and re-elected in 2014 and 2018. He is the Past President of the California Assessors Association (CAA) and has sat on the CAA Executive Committee for seven years. Prior to his election to Assessor, he was a National Partner for State and Local Taxes with Deloitte LLP for 11 years. His practice was mainly in State Income Tax and Sales Tax controversy and governmental relations. For 20 years before Deloitte, he was a member of the California State Board of Equalization (Board). He served as Chairman of the Board five separate times and chairman of the Property Tax Committee. During his first three years on the Board, he wrote the original Property Tax Rules for Prop 13. While still on the Board, he was the designer of the California Taxpayer Bill of Rights. He was the president of the Federation of Tax Administrators, a national association of State Tax Administrators, and the President of the Western States Association of Tax Administrators. Ernie was a member of the IRS Commissioner’s Advisory Group and was appointed by the Speaker of the House to the IRS Restructuring Commission.

Ernie is a graduate of San Diego State University with a B.S. in Business Administration Finance/Accounting. He did post-graduate work in Economics and in Real Estate. He is a Certified Property Tax Appraiser. He was raised in San Diego and now resides on a 33-acre working flower farm in the hills of Fallbrook with his wife Marilyn. They have a blended family of four daughters and eight grandkids.
